I've got several sets myself. I drive by a harbor freight every day--it's hard not to stop by there and get something. I like the swiss-army-knife style hex key / torx sets they sell for about $5 a set. You get every size, english and metric, organized and labeled, in something you can stick in your pocket. They look like this:

So the pool agony continues. The leak detection guys finally found the problem at the shallow end return (which is where I figured it had been all along ), so the pool guys came and cut the concrete and dug down behind the aluminum wall. Now, usually these pipes are just encased in dirt the rest of the way to the pump, but for some unknown reason my installation featured more concrete well below the usual apron at the top. If they are going to replace the existing return, it will mean breaking more concrete -- it's possible that I am looking at an entire re-route of the system ...

It is distinctly unpleasant, yes. Mind you, a pool from scratch is in the 40G $CAD range, so I guess it could be worse!

Thats the only kind of (outdoor) pool id go for, having just made the pond into a giant sandbox for the sons.

So I finished working on my house and bought a different one. Back to square one.

lol. This stuff is all enjoyable to me, I like to realize small improvements over time. I just finished detailing my moldings, and next I'm going to improve the seal of the doors with new thresholds and an improved gasket system. After that some I'm going to change some of things that bug me about the kitchen cabinets and also possible install a worthwhile chimney style range hood.

I also have designs on improving the heating system through insulating the ductworks and replacing some of the flex ducts with hard duct, then installing that heavy foil in the attic to reduct heat loss.

Installed a generator and transfer switch recently (I do this myself).

This is the first time I've seen this thread. I shall be posting regularly.

Not too long ago I tore up the bathroom floor and replaced the baseboard heating with radiant heating under new tiles. I cannot express the joy of walking barefoot into a warm bathroom on a cold December morning. (Today).

i've always wondered how that works. what do you add into the floor to warm it up?

Well you put down heating elements under the floor.

It's basically a mat you put down, wire up, cover with appropriate tile, then enjoy warm feet in the bathroom.

I had baseboard hearing previously. Used same connections, just required a few modifications. I'm pretty sure there's some YouTube videos on this.
