Ataturk, the seals ended up helping quite a bit. Before we turn it into a nursery I plan to take a full scale approach and change the insulation to your suggestion. Everything I've researched agrees that the fiberglass is pretty useless in this application.

My dad set up a room in the basement of my childhood home to contain all his ham radio stuff. The neighbors apparently underestimated how slippery the roads are. This happened an hour or so ago:

Fortunately nobody was hurt, but I don't envy them the structural issues that will no doubt arise in fixing it.

at least I am not moving until the remodeling is done, but I had a discussion with my wife about things to fix, budget, etc and although for the most part she is reasonable... did you get the "for the most part"? well will see...

anyway, I'm pretty happy about it...

^^Congrats on the new place. Lucky that you have the option to remodel before moving in. That is the way to do it. But, allow more time and more $$$ for the work than quoted. Good luck!

Here's a couple pictures from when I was insulating and air sealing the sidewalls of one of my rooms upstairs.

I had to pull up the side attic floors. Sealed about 60 feet of floor cavities that were open to the side attics, and stapled about as many feet of r-13 over the wall insulation (which wasn't making good contact with the walls). Also insulated the garage ceiling and the foam sealing panels to try to keep the floor cavity insulated. Also had to reroute a bunch of wires to get them off the side attic floors. Also sealed the doors to the side attics, insulated them, rewired some outlets. Air sealed all the outlet boxes and the like. And that's just what I did in the side attics. Did it all early in the summer too, a few hours at a time in the evenings. Miserable work.
