I tried to start a similar thread months ago - which predictably, failed miserably. Had a bunch more to post, but seemed to have misplaced the folder.

I've been meaning to post in here, but took me forever to take photos.

I picked up a couple of pieces thrifting a while back. One is a 50's Hickey-Freeman MTM navy blue shawl tuxedo. It's way too big for me, but I'm having a hard time letting it go. A part of me is tempted to invest the $300+ it would take to completely recut the pants and fit the jacket. My grandmother worked at HF from about '48 to '78. I like the idea that she may have worked on it, which would make it a totally awesome thing to wear if I eventually get married. According to my mom, my grandmother specialized in buttonholes and worked on a suit for President Johnson. When I was over at my parents a few weeks ago and told them how I was getting into a wee bit of minor tailoring, my mom pulls out a piece of my grandmother's chalk and some of her silk to give to me. Kind of a cool memento to have of her. I wasn't paying attention to such sartorial things back when she was alive.

The second is a suit made by a local tailor, Franco Ippoliti, who is now retired. Again, the pants would need a recut in addition to the jacket work, but I'm really tempted to have the work done. That's a small investment compared to the quality of the suit. The suit is a midnight blue, which the photos don't show well.
