I like the casual confidence of polo's. They are classic. I think they have been modernized with new cuts for a more fitted and stylized look. The primary fashion faux paus is wearing one that doesn't fit correctly. Unfortunately a lot of people do not know their own fit, or how to fit a shirt to their body. So often they look baggy and too big. The long hem in the back is meant to elongate the torso, which it does if it is not too long. Otherwise it dwarfs your frame. If you are wearing it under a blazer, it needs to be fitted so it doesnt look bunched under the blazer. With the custom fits available you can now make sure that they fit highlights your frame. These subtle differences can take frump to fashion.

We happen to like the polo blazer look.  So much, in fact, that we designed some polos with collar bands and woven collars (solids and patterns), so the collar will stand up nice under a blazer or sweater for that matter.  Cheers!  www.vastrm.com

For an excellent example of the polo/blazer look check the guy on the left
in the film The last Days of Disco (1998) , a chronicle of Ivy League youth in the early eighties,
which also coincided with the "preppie" style fad:
