Geez that's good. Would not have appreciated it at the time but now I do.

Early days of Armani were great. There some really good lookbook pics in Images of a Man, which is an old Armani vanity book. Some of the later stuff went off the rails, but the early work is really nice. Slouchy, Italian, slightly oversized fits. Dropped buttoning points, longer coats, etc. The jackets almost seem to fall away from the chest.

Some of the earlier years, from like 1975 to 1982-ish. Tailoring here is a little cleaner

Then the later stuff, sometime around mid-80s to early '90s. A little fuller and exaggerated, but still good. Takes after the old English drape cut a bit, but pushes the boundaries in terms of silhouette and removes even more structure.

For me, this is probably the most iconic Armani silhouette. Extended shoulder, soft chest, low gorge, dropped buttoning points, etc. (Although buttoning point here isn't so much dropped as it's just buttoned lower. Same effect though).

Even the shirts looked low slung. Good scene from American gigolo showing lowered chest pockets. Nice look on boxier, oversized shirts, IMO. You see that sort of lowered pocket on things like Lemaire today.

I don't remember where I first saw this image, but I remember that it really sparked my interested in tailored clothing. I wore something approximating that to my grade eight graduation, iirc. Also, I had that hair, sorta.

I keep coming back to look at these. Particularly fond of this edited selection. There are no 7" leg openings here, huh?

Some of it has a very mid-century feel to me, not that I have any speical knowledge of that period.

Love this coat and the proportions overall.

This is some sort of full cut collarless shearling? I'd like one.

^ Those last twos, pretty sure I have the full lookbook saved somewhere and it's glorious, trying to locate it now.

More recently-- I don't care a whole lot about the high fashun anymore and JWAnderson was never my thing but I gotta say I think the Loewe lookbooks (campaigns ? where's the line ?) have been consistently great since the relaunch.
