The fit of my first suit - advice needed

I recently purchased my first suit. I hated it the day I bought it, but I really don't know how to ask for what I want. This is probably just going to be a couple hundred dollars down the drain, but maybe I can at least learn from this so next time I will wind up with something I will actually wear.

I included two pics from GQ, from a slideshow where they actually had the do and do nots for suit fits. I feel like i pretty much fell exactly into the what not to do picture, and I'm defiantly looking for a suit that fits like the one in the what to do picture.

Anyway help me out here. I feel like the jacket has no shape to it, I'm an athletically built guy and it just makes me look like a barrel. I feel like its way to loose on the chest, and the waist, and even the arms. I also feel like its a little too long. The pants were absolutely huge when I got them off the rack, but even after they tailored them I feel like there is way too much break. The just hang off ****** and are very baggy.

Check out the five pics I included. The first two are from GQ, the last three are me from various angles.

I think you nailed all the faults in short its just way too big.

>but I really don't know how to ask for what I want.

Find a H&M store, go to it, try one of their slim fit suits. If it, and it should, fits more like you want that's a great starting point.

first, your shirt sleeves and jacket sleeves are about 2-3" too long. second, your jacket shoulders look just slightly too big, and i'd hate to see how the pants fit!

Looks at though you are a "regular" wearing a "long", and in at least one size too large. Shirt collar is nice.

I think the length of the jacket s fine, but those sleeves are way too long, and you might want to get a tailor to take in the rest of the coat.

You're right, actually. The salesman insisted that I get an extra-long, although I'm only 6'2".

The jacket should be close to your kuckle length. Yours appears much longer. Did you check out this thread on regular vs long in relation to your height? Not exact, as you can be 6 2 with a long torso, and short legs, but you get the idea:

Mistake #1: listening to the salesman. He is motivated by profit (selling a suit)

try the next size smaller,if still too big keep going down. the size should be the smallest size that is comfortable in the shoulders. try moving around and also sitting
down. as for other measures. the jacket, if you are tall should cover your butt plus an inch. if the sides are too big have it taken in. now the trousers. first if you wear a belt then cinch up your belt. if trousers are big allow the waist to fold in back under the belt. if the tailor objects tell him s---- you its your suit. he must work with you. the trousers will be the right length if the belt is at your waist not your hips. the proper position is at your natural waist just above your hip bone. otherwise you will have a baggy ass.

i might suggest taking the suit you have back to the store and tell them to re fit it.
you paid for it right?

I'd suggest that this garment is a lost cause and should either be consigned to EBay or simply burned.
