Yup. Maidana had heart and some insanity to get up from that. Most people can't will themselves through that.

Haven't seen/heard/read of this is any verifiable records, it seems to just mean that "boxing" pre-1966 = kung fu. http://www.bullshido.net/forums/show....php?p=1758368 I mean, could a fight against a guy named "Wong Shun-Leung, Hong" really be anything but marsupialed wing chun slap-fighting?

Did not like this that much.

Bale undereating and overacting again. And some of the worst fight choreography I've ever seen. Walberg looked like he was barely punching.

Ward vs. Gatti: 1st fight - round 9

Tough SOBs.

As a someone that grew up in a similar rundown suburb of Boston, Bale's performance was dead-on with some of the people I grew up with; (the sisters were great too). Especially loved the end during the credit roll, when they showed a clip of the real Mickey and Dickey...Bale nailed Dickies mannerisms perfectly.

After seeing the real person that Bale was playing in the movie, I'm not as sure that he was overacting. I thought he did a great job.

I'm not really a fan of Christian Bale, but he was magnetic in this. It's quite simply his best performance.

bale was excellent. i always appreciate an actor who can make me forget it's a role. i didn't buy wahlburg, though. he put a little too much of that whiny dirk diggler lost puppy vibe into the role. the soundtrack and rest of the casting was great.

Not a great movie by any means but I had a lot of fun with it. Definitely recommend it for light viewing/popcorn movie.

Reading the Oscar nominations on BBC, I just realized Christian Bale was born in Wales and has a natural accent. I always assumed he was American.

But I liked his performance in this film. When you compare it to Batman he's a totally different character.

The film, though, isn't one of the best. The actress who plays the mother is spot on but I don't think she appears on screen enough to warrant any serious commendation.

I loved the "art direction" in terms of the citizens of Lowell. The sisters and their accents were great and I wouldn't be surprised if they actually just plucked people out of the rural areas of the NE and put them into the roles.

Bale was pretty damn good. Wahlberg was alright ... I like him better in comedy films. Overall a decent movie watch.

Great movie. Loved the gaggle of ghouls that played Micky's Mom and sisters. I am sure the Mom was a professional but those sisters were definitely cast from locals, IMO. I also read that Wahlberg has said that as he was doing his last six (yes, 6) movies, he was secretely preparing for this one, getting to the gym for a three-hour workout before he was due on set so he could be as realistic as possible. And Bale never ceases to amaze, even though he is kind of a nut in real life. But how many aren't?
