The bag hag posted this pic on her blog - her focus was the Goyard family jack russell, tina, who apparently has her run of the shop. What caught my eye was the Duke's old trunk at the top of the stairs (which I'm assuming is real and not a phony antique because Goyard wouldnt do anything that lame, right?)

Anyway - I love those old trunks:

Will try and get them up soon. I have an all black standard steamer, a painted canvas grand steamer which is my pride and joy, and an extremely rare vellum travel case, which sadly is not in the best condition. The vellum is dry and peeling away from the wood frame.

I have 3 or 4 vintage LV trunks as well, all from 1890-1920, and the Goyard ones really destroy them.

Agreed, they fit a doubled over dead body perfectly.

You found that too?

I do like vintage trunks, but I haven't been able to aspire to something quite so grand, so my only trunk is a no-name British two-strap green canvas job. Still, it is a nice conversation piece (or, rather, was, until it got banished to the attic.)

Very beautiful. I always thought that the Duke of Windsor was the best dressed man of the 20th century. Storage space is supposed to be elegant too

Anyone remember the episode of the Flintstones 'Alvin Brickrock Presents' w/ the trunk?

It's real. An entire set for both the Duke and Duchess were sold back in that big Sotheby's auction. Those two had many items engraved with their names or crest (a W like symbol with a crown on it) I can scan some pages from the auction books if anyone is interested.

From what I've seen the Goyard trunks rarely go below $6k in decent condition. I've wanted a Loui trunk for years to double as a coffee table but never found one of those that approached affordability either...would much rather spend the money on bespoke.

I got really lucky with mine. I should really take some pics and upload but :

Goyard grand steamer (4 removable insert trays) est. 1900-1910 in painted monogram canvas - $3200 on ebay
Goyard black canvas/bronze steamer (midsize, 3 removable trays) est. 1900-1910 - $650 craigslist
Goyard vellum (looks like human skin) trunk, est. 1920-1930 - $150 ebay (buy it now)

LV Grand steamer (biggest one they offered) in brown painted canvas - est 1870-1880 - $1200 ish eBay
LV Grand steamer (same as above) est 1870-1880 - $600 local antique shop
LV flat steamer in painted monogram (not printed) cloth canvas - $350 (ebay buy it now)
LV small steamer in brown painted canvas and black hardware - $450 (live auction)

See, you just have to hunt around!

Still does not beat the two leather Goyard and LV large hardshell suitcases I got at a local estate sale for $25 each!

(sold them for $850 each)
