Hi all, I figured this would be fun: a thread collecting various pictures of the Duke. No.. Not John Wayne, but the style icon of the 30s and 40s in Britain: the Duke of Windsor, aka king Edward VIII. I don't see this usually with overcoats as they tend to cover the jacket completely. I'm thinking of getting this style for a beige overcoat I'm getting made these days, but am hesitating a bit. What do you think of this style? If you know of some other pics of the Duke, feel free to post them. bern

Great findings. He sure doesn't look short... By the way, now would be an excellent time to bring up another popular internet forum lesson: Image Leeching. Image Leeching is when you use the img tags to "leech" an image from another site, costing the other site additional bandwidth bills. Many forums therefore encourage its users to simply copy the pictures onto their hard drives and upload them onto a personal webspace, and using the img tags to link to those instead. Edit: Or simply linking them like that would work also

I read a bit about the image leeching on some other site. I was unaware that some webmasters would find it an annoyance.. I modified my post: I think it's better as it is: the images are not included automatically, but a reference is given.

I thought about transferring the images to my server, and linking to it, but this would possibly have given me trouble in terms of image theft or copyright violation.

I was just about to add to the 'policy on posting' thread regarding image leeching. Linking to pics is fine, as only those interested parties will click, but leeching is bad, as everyone who views the page will use the leeched website's bandwidth, regardless of whether they wanted to see the pictures or not. Quite aside from issues of etiquette, many webmasters, upon finding that their images are being leeched, tend to replace them with other, far more disturbing images, to dissuade further leeching. The Style Forum is one of the few places I can go on the Internet without seeing a certain picture of a certain man turning a certain part of his anatomy inside-out, and I'd like to keep it that way... Â

I second your opinion: the overcoat collar style looks very nice.

By the way, I used Ted's tailors at the Shilla the other day for some alterations, and was very impressed with their workmanship. The cost was quite reasonable, too, only
W20,000 for taking in the waist and hemming some trousers. Of course, these standard alterations are hardly the most stringent test of the tailor's craft, but I just thought I'd pass on the info.

Yes, the Shilla Hotel in Seoul. And it really is called Ted's Tailors ... although don't ask me why, since of course all the clientele are Koreans, and they only stock Samsung cloth, since the hotel is owned by Samsung.

Still, they did a nice job, including putting a very pretty heel guard at the hem.

It should be noted that in order to look taller, the Duke had his jackets cut slightly shorter.
