Navy pents are generally shunned on SF.

But I think I'm starting to like them if they're made from a casual fabric. I just ordered these from a mystery maker in linen.

I think they look quite good with cognac loafers and belt. I really like the visual contrast. They don't look like navy suit orphans since they're linen

    Already own these:

Also substitute in a small scale blue gingham shirt.

I don't understand how people can hold "navy trousers are always bad" in their heads with "jeans are acceptable" at the same time.

That said, I don't intend to buy navy pants any time soon, since I'd get a lot more mileage out of gray and tan -- plus, I've got jeans.

Not crazy about the super strong contrasts between belts/shoes and particularly dark trousers. Drawing a lot of attention to shoes isn't really my bag. A junior navy, or even a shade lighter? Go crazy, but for a true navy or a charcoal, then I might want to stick to burg or brown.

    Agree.

    Also agree.

I rarely wear dress trousers and sports coats, it's either suits or casual wear. I wear navy pants a lot but in casual fabrics like chinos, midnight blue denim, etc. Anything that doesn't really need a crease. I like the look but it doesn't really carry over to worsted trousers.

I agree with tim_horton upthread. Navy trousers work best in obviously informal material. Leaving the obvious choice of denim/jeans aside, I have a pair in a brushed cotton. And while I don't own a pair, I think navy cords can look quite nice in autumn too. Worsted wool navy trousers though? Nope, not for me.

Slightly light than navy odd trousers can be fun options for sunny weather, in materials like linen or cotton. French, royal and cobalt blues are all great in summer (I just bought a second pair the other day). Steely grey-blues can be nice in any season; I like a pair of variegated tweed ones that have sort of background shade.

Agreed. I have a pair of navy chinos that I wear all the time.

They look good with a casual tan jacket. An Acute Style does it passably here.

I don't really understand why people want to wear worsted odd trousers. To have something in mid weight to wear year round? Because you want to get more use out of your suit pants? If you can afford to have a seasonal wardrobe, I see no reason to go beyond linen and cotton for summer, and flannel, donegal, and brushed cotton/moleskin for winter.

you ever hear of spring or fall?

Worsted trousers are three season for me, and I find them to go equally as well with a tweed SC or a lighter tan summer jacket. You can also wear them with more formal sweaters.

really, there is a big time frame in which worsted trousers make sense.

The trouser wardrobe I described easily covers the temperatures in between as well.
