    me, too!

You guys, this thread is worthless without pics! And stories, like "This one time when I was wearing my lucky underwear...."

    Fewer "perfect wardrobe" posts, please!

You guys are too nice. And yes, Mark, I do a lot of writing, although most of it comes out as creative non-fic. I'm not sure I've ever successfully completed a short story (at least one that I liked), despite having started thousands.

I'm working on it. This is my new favorite thread but I'm not going to [truly] contribute until I can do it justice. Pics will be involved.

I like this just as a concept in that we're actually challenging each other to be content with things that, by all rights, we should be content with. It's a really good counterpoint to all the kopping threads/posts.

Definitely working on posting a bit more in this thread, pictures primarily. Not going to compete with synth's writing, but hopefully the gist will be interesting regardless :D.

    Great thread idea Hendrix.

I stumbled on a pretty good websale today and had an itch to buy something. Had an inbox full of things and then i went through it item by item trying to figure out if I really "needed" it or not. Ended up not getting anything.

This summer I didn't buy much in the way of short sleeve shirts or shorts, but rather cut off old shirts to make short sleeves, and pants to make shorts, for the cost of thread.

Did pick up a pair of W+H pearl/white low-tops, but seemed justified as the only sneakers I owned were these beat PF Flyers I mow the lawn in :embar:

MJ sweaters are the best garments I own. They are so comfortable and always make me :) when I wear them

There are two things that have no charged for me in the past two years. My PBJ's and my TOJ 2010 winter varsity. They've become such a part of my daily wear (varsity outside of summer) that I hadn't even considered replacing them with something new until recently, when I put my denim through the wash and all the weak spots gave way. Now one pocket is always torn off and you can almost see my underwear through the back yoke and I really don't want to let them go. My varsity on the other hand, is still going damn strong. Its been in the rain and snow at least a hundred times and the leather is all tightened, rough and worn but its broke in so damn nicely I don't care. When I met up with Dan the first time to get my new leather he even said its the best wear he's even seen on one of their varsity (or that might have been me putting words in his mouth). Feels weird to buy anything new now, I don't feel quite at home in my DR and my new pair of new cures just dont feel right (probably just going to sell them). There's something to be said for purchases you really dont think much about that end up becoming a huge part of you. People recognize me based purely on the jacket, even if they do not know me on a personal level.

cool thread! largely been a lurker here, but my style and sense of self have both grown by leaps and bounds. I originally came with the mentality of "these guys know what cool is, so if you wear what they wear, you'll be cool too." Kind of a monkey-see monkey-do attitude. Ive since figured out what works for ME and what doesn't, and what gels with my body type. Well-made basics really survive some time. I have an Isaora insulated zip hoodie that will last me FOREVER, and some pair of shoes that will last a long long time. I wanted so badly to be a rick/silent/odyn/BBS kind of guy but realized I couldnt make it work with my frame (and paycheck size!). Bits and pieces here and there have contributed to a still-changing (but more settled than when I began) wardrobe.

^ coming to terms with what works and what doesn't with one's physique is a major step toward contentedness, I think.

I've done that part already, accepting I will never be a beanpole. The tough thing for me is that I like and appreciate so many different styles/genres ('classic' menswear, flowy eastern lines, scruffy rocker/surfer, mod/minimalist, junya-style trad-prep), that my baseline wardrobe kind of expands just to meet the basic criteria of a certain look. So I end up thinking "oh, I need these shoes or that style jacket" to complete a certain look.. and the contentedness factor goes down. I think the trick is slowing down to appreciate the cool shit one already has as well as finding new ways to combine older items. I admire those who have really honed a singular/particular style and can get by with 4 shoes, 4 pants, 4 jackets, etc. unfortunately, that's just not my thing. I like clothes too much. I'm a clothes whore, I mean horse. ;-)

Sometimes, when a shop has a sale, I add everything I want to my cart. Then, I go through and ask myself if I really want each item, deleting it if I don't. Most often, I wind up with an empty cart.
