One passed me yesterday, and I've also seen them at the dealership. Hideous. I really don't like them.

FUGLY and I say this as a BMW owner and a guy who doesn't think the Accord is all that bad. I first saw one of these in the Munich airport back in October and I remember being sort of drawn to it like a bad auto accident.

It's not very aspirational, is it?

Undoubtedly it's what long-haul senior salesmen would be best off with without going full wagon, but it looks more like a blown-up family hatchback as we say over here than a 'Grand Tourer'.

Good thing is the new regular 5 series (F10) is a splendid car ... and the station wagon (F11), although not out yet, looks promising.

Well, it's not the first time BMW has come out with an ugly car in recent memory:

As a non-BMW owner (but big fan) I am as well appalled.

I can understand the reasoning of the car, but do not quite get the execution.

I see the car as BMWs response to the Mercedes R-class, but think that BMW did not learn of the mistakes of the Stuttgarters (in their own way). For the sake of slightly better rear-seat conditions and reclining seats, they created a heavy, disproportioned bodywork, with long overhangs, "fat a..s" and IMHO zero character.

Really a mistake in my opinion, but history teaches us that even the most ugly cars sell, so this will not be an exception
