might be the only choice, or take it to another berluti store. Im not even sure where the ebay seller would have got a crust leather shoe, dont think those are sold at any Berluti stores or stockists

Another issue with Berluti is that each style of shoe only comes in one width. Most are rather narrow. Thus, it may not be possible to get a proper fit in the Berluti style one wants. .

-Thank you for the very informative post.
Fit:
This was a primary problem for me. For as much as they charge, one would opine Berluti would have multiple widths. I like their wholecut immensely, hence the purchase, from a stylisic viewpoint, but even going up a 1/2 size, adding a shoe tongue pad, to prevent slippage, the laces still spread way too much thereby making it unacceptable for proper fit. A wider width would have allowed precise fit. I'm much more discerning now about wholecut fit.

Durability:
The leather is very thin and delicate. It does crease and even with proper shoe trees, the creasing is ever present. A polar opposite of the shoes I own are Vass leathers which are the most durable I've seen and with shoe trees creasing is imperceptible. Also, I unfortunately got caught in light rain with my Berluti, even after previous polishing, water spots can be perceptibly permanent even after trees and drying out after a week, and this was very light precipitation. The most delicate leathers I've even seen or experienced.

I would put Berluti on par how you would treat a suede shoe, very carefully, out of the elements, inside most of the time, almost like a slipper if you want them to last.

Laces:
I had the same exact shoe lace problem and had to get new laces within 3 to 4 months. It's as if a scissor cutting thru the laces over time.

Style:
Second to none with the classic wholecut.

These are just my impressions, feel free to disagree.

Would I purchase them again?
Yes, I would purchase the bespoke wholecuts in classic design (no duckbills)

They make for a smart purchase for special occassions, but not a work shoe for me, nor a workhorse for heavy rotation.
Talking about the durability, can I polish thicker layer on top of the leather so to protect?

Does anyone know Berluti's bespoke shoes trunk show schedule for 2019?
Spoke with the Berluti store today in NYC. They just had a trunk show earlier in March and are doing another one in June. Jean-Michel does all of the trunk shows in the US. Starting price is $8400 of which $1200 is a lasting fee.

Sharing pics of a pair of MTO Playtime sneakers purchased through Bergdorf last fall and finally received last week. While there are limitations, I was able to specify the overall shoe color (Nero Caviar), level of patina, lining color, brand badge color (red), and type of sole. I was also able to switch out the shoe laces for blood orange ones.

watch out, ebay is flooded with what seems to be fake Berlutis. In my eye, these are 100% fake, as in I have no doubt at all they are, but if anyone thinks otherwise say so. To be honest, up until now I did not know that mens quality shoes are faked (for example, G&G, EG etc but I suppose Berluti does not necessarily belong in the same category with the shoes above)
Here is an example:

Example fake Berluti

Here is the good news. I don't think any of us are paying the kind of money we are paying for shoes because of the label but rather because of the quality. You see a pic or you hold the shoe in your hands and you know how much you want to pay before you see the label. And vice verca, I see the shoes above and I know I would not accept money to own them, let alone pay any amount for them, no matter the brand.

First of all, really enjoyed reading the entire thread (especially the 10+ year old posts).

I recently inquired about San Francisco trunk shows and they told me the below. Also, I must say the Las Vegas store was more than helpful and very nice to talk to. Nothing arrogant or what other SF members mention.
"For bespoke shoes, the price is around $7800 to $8200 for one pair. A Bespoke specialist will fly from Pairs twice to measure your foot for making the shoes." But I believe they would try to set up an appointment here in the Bay Area based on one or two long time customers that they specifically fly out for... Have not decided yet if I want to spend that kind of money but will be in Paris next year, maybe a personal visit to the shop convinces me.

Also this article might be interesting for some here: https://www.theshoesnobblog.com/2016/10/a-trip-to-berluti-london-part-three.html

Was at the Dubai store. Saw the new Alessandro edge. In my hands I liked it a lot. Got tempted to make my first Berluti purchase but when I tried it looked a bit clunky on my feel. Almost like beach flip flop. What do you guys think? Also I did not know that stores charge extra to order your size if they don’t have it, is that true? Or were they just trying to make take my size since they happen to have it ??

My take on such a model is that it’ll only e wearable forms short period of time. One year from now you’ll probably barely wear them anymore..unless it is because you feel compelled as they cost so much...
