Could be an interesting day out for those of you in our fair city....

Jermyn Street and the Crown Estate are opening up the famous Mayfair street for a festival showcasing the luxury brands that operate there: The Cavendish London Hotel has a free hog roast for visitors and cream teas available inside, Fortnum and Mason has tea tastings, shoemakers and shirtmakers showcase their crafts and entertainment includes live music from the Royal Academy of Music and face-painting for kids.

I'm going tomorrow to London...

I would have liked walking down Jermyn street and be part of that day.

You see these influences everywhere you go in Britain, from textiles to architecture even elements of our language.

Tea drinking was introduced to Britain in 1662 with the marriage of the Portugese Princess, Catherine of Braganza, to Charles II.
Commercial cultivation of tea in India was begun by the East India Company in 1848 after tea plants were smuggled out of China.

A cup of tea has been referred to as a metaphor for the British Empire founded on trade:

the cup itself coming from China
the tea from India
sugar from the West Indies
the water and milk from Britain

with all the ingredients stirred together by Sheffield steel.
