So do we think it's worth the extra $300 for the slightly better processor and extra storage space?

Better processor, yes. More storage, no.

You can upgrade just the processor to 1.3 ghz if I'm not mistaken.

Max out the processor and memory and get an external hard drive.

256GB is probably enough...but that's going to depend entirely on your usage. How much storage do you currently use? Both my work computer and my desktop are currently using more than that (as is my HPTC...but you're not going to be archiving seasons of HD video on a macbook). Back before I got rid of my small travel/breakfast laptop for a tablet, my laptop wasn't using anywhere near that...probably 60GB max.

I'd be inclined to do it though...you know that shit isn't going to be upgradable, and its not like you have a spare USB port to plug in an external drive (yeah yeah, buy a Time Capsule, access wirelessly).

Unless you plan to upgrade when the next revision is released, I'd probably want to step up the CPU. This CPU is already underpowered...if you are going to keep this for 3 years, it will probably feel like a dog if you don't upgrade.

I've been looking for the configuration options are but haven't come across anything. I have a feeling that there will be very few configuration choices available. I'm kind of thinking you're going to have to choose between 1.1GHz/256 GB for $1300 or 1.2GHz/512 GB for $1600 and that's it for your decision making, no RAM or video card changes.

I read somewhere that you'll be able to choose the base model and further configure the processor to be 1.2 or 1.3 ghz.

It says on the store page for the macbook at the bottom:

    ConīŦgure to Order
1.3GHz dual-core Intel Core M processor (Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz) with 4MB shared L3 cache

But doesn't say how much and you can't choose the option from the only 2 options at the top. I'm thinking you pick one of the two options and on check out it will ask if you want to upgrade to 1.3.

Looks like you're right. I'll probably go 1.3GHz/256GB.

Samesies. What color? I'm torn between gold and space grey. I need to see both in person but so far gold is edging out.

Space grey. Gold would just draw too much attention I think.

I plan on using it at home only anyway so the attention factor isn't too big of a concern for me.

So tired of silver / black laptops. Gold would be a very refreshing change.

Gonna head to Frys this weekend and see some other 12" laptops. Love the design of the MacBook but can't help but think the screens a little small.

The more I hear about the Apple watch the less I want one. It will take them offering a unique function that I love that isn't on my phone to change my mind.

I am however interested in some of the rumblings from the makers of Swatch. They are suggesting that they will offer a fun, inexpensive watch with useful functions. I get the impression it is to smart watches what Casio was to digital when they launch the G series. It could be fun, functional and fashionable. But it won't try to compete with all of the apps Apple plans to have, just a few.
