The apparently scary jil sander.

Hello,

It seems I have read numerous accounts of the Jil Sander label being intimidating, and the stores as well.

Now the times I have been inside one I have never felt the service to be frosty, etc. However the decor has an icy aura.

Minimialism can be a scary concept to some I suppose.

People say Jeffrey in New York is intimidating as well.

All Jil Sander boutiques utilize a doorman that has to let you in. One doesn't just enter.

That's just bull. There are security guys, sure. But there are security guys are pretty much every same-name boutiques, especially in areas with hight pedestrian traffic (go to Gucci, Prada, Ferragamo, etc... and you'll see.) And I'd never been to a Jil Sander boutique where you need to be rung in. In SF a few years ago, when the Prada boutique was being moved, you could even get into Jil Sander by a back door by way of Prada. The stores are a little stark, sure. But not really intimidating. Just increasingly irritating.

Gonna have to go w/ LA Guy on this one... I don't shop there alot, but the Chicago Jil Sander has wonderful service and always treats me Very well. No locked doors and I get phone calls about the pre-sales as well as lookbooks each season from Jef in Chicago. This for someone who's only bought a tie and a pair of shoes. I have a Jil 2-button suit from Barney's that is of impeccable quality... good lapel roll, canvased, great modern cut and very nice fabric. Nothing but pleased w/ there stores. Jeffrey is good as well. I have numerous salespeople who know me by name and help me. I usually just browse there anyway.

l am not sure if they sell clothes or not but they do sell shoes, not just sneakers. The Louisa boutique in Melbourne sell their dress shoes and yes, they are very fashion victim footwear. You know; huge square toe boots and shoes with the soles being leather with a rubber strip going thru the sole. Sometimes the soles go onto the upper. Really weird stuff Nick. Go to Louisa and you'll know what l mean. Not that great a quality shoes either. $1,000 for a reasonable good year welted shoe. Far overpriced. Wouldn't buy Jill Sander shoes.

l have a hunch that they sell clothing as well.
