I knew who they all were off the top of my head.
to nerds.
i doubt most people have even heard of grodd
If you've seen any of a handful of the animated movies, comics, or spinoff/partner shows, you've seen grodd. And the people that watch those aren't just confined to nerds.
With that said, I think Flash is an absolutely terrible lone superhero for a movie. He is incredibly powerful (see JLU where he beats Brainiac), but doesn't have the character to fill up an entire video. Not compelling enough. Superman has the fame, Batman has the sheer intellect, etc. Flash is, in every version I've seen, a witty joke character, not well-suited for a headlining film.
Flash made well would make a lot of money but undeniably, his costume might not translate well on-screen ala Green Lantern.
I agree. The design itself wasn't that offensive. However, I cannot say the same about the end result.
Another obstacle towards making a Flash movie would be finding a decent villain IMO.
GL had another huge problem, the villain. They did Parallax no justice and he was just horribly done.
As for the Flash villains, there are plenty to choose from. Capt. Boomerang, Capt. Cold, Trickster, Weather Wizard, Heat Wave, Mirror Master, Abra Kadabra, The Top and Prof. Zoom as all possible. I'd like to see Grodd but I don't know if they can pull that off. I think Prof Zoom is a good origins villain and maybe have a montage of him beating up some of the lesser villains in Central City.
Barry Allen?
Agree Flash isn't a good character to headline a movie.
I don't know. You could have some cool visuals in a Flash movie. Add in a competent storyline and it might be enough.
I vaguely remember that but technology and costume design is just so much better these days. I loved Smallville for the first 4-5 seasons and I thought they did superhero show very well. There were a few costumed heroes there like Green Arrow, Hawkman, Booster Gold, etc... Some looked cheesy but I think it worked overall.
As a Smallville fan (at least the decent seasons) - towards the end of the series they started going bat-crazy incorporating DC crossovers. Their JSA two-hour episode was pretty good - nailed Dr. Strange.
