Thanks! He asked if he could add something gator related to the soles. I didn't want to stand in the way of his enthusiasm, so of course I accepted.

That's really cool. He always does a great job. I imagine that job was upwards of $250?

Did he lighten the welt at all? Those came with black welts originally, correct?

It was about that price. I would like to send him a lot more shoes in the future, but his service isn't cheap. I'll only send him a few select pairs.

The welt is black, as the original sole was the black VIP rubber. I don't think he lightened it. I did ask him if he could do wheeling on the edges, which he calls fudging. He said it was no problem for him to do.

Yes, that's my hesitation too. I know he does GREAT work, I just don't have any pairs to send him since I haven't worn anything out!

I do really wish AE would wheel their shell shoes. It really adds character. Your shoes look great!

Bedo's posted a few pics of my gator Parks with new soles. I'm very pleased with how they turned out. I just asked for a regular JR sole with some kind of lighter tan edge, and wheeling. Very excited to see these when they arrive.

Custom Cork insole while he was working on them:

Those are a freaking work of art, and Steve enhanced them. Congrats!!!

My understanding is wheeling is the detailing on the bottom of the sole, and fudging is what's on the welt.

The Dundee takes a big step up in shell. Those are fantastic!

Question for you experts/historians...was there ever "gunmetal" horween shell cordovan, or a similar sort of silver-y/black/grey color of horween shell used by allen edmonds for the special shell make up events? I seem to have come across a very uniquely colored shell boot and I can't figure out what color it is.

Nope. But I own all the shell colors - post a pic and I'll tell you which it is.

Well its not navy and its not gunmetal, so it has to be black. But its the lightest, most "silvery" black that I've ever seen. I have dozens of black horween shell, and this pair sticks out like a sore thumb. Just chalk it up to variance and finishing techniques.

Possibly faded, though it starts to go brown.
Here's an example of the transition between black/grey/brown occuring on some seriously sun faded Vibergs (in sun for like 5 years at a shop he said I think)
