Those look like they may actually be walnut. Wonder what the year of manufacture is? It’s possible the upper could have been languishing unwelted in a warehouse for years.

When I called AE after I received them they were of no help, sadly. They changed systems and could not look up the original manufacture information, which is what I was really after. It will forever be a mystery I guess!

PS during the last big sale I tried to get a pair of shell patriots and when I contacted the store they claimed it was an "inventory error" but the shoe is STILL listed available from the same store. What gives? I wanted the sale price but I can't believe they wouldn't have fixed the error by now!

That is quite normal. AE has never really caught up with their web presence. There are a few pairs I know of that are known not to be in inventory. There are hundreds more that don't show up unless you have a really good SA on your side willing to dig around and make some calls.
