1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Its been a while but FINALLY my MTO fifth streets have come back to my possession and I am very pleased. I had Allison redo the edges to the originally requested toasted edge dressing, which I think looks much better then the dark brown they used by mistake.

Well, the second shot at the Strands were a fail as well. They forgot to do the medium brown edging, instead they did just standard dark brown (nearly black) edges. Also the pinking on these shoes are just atrocious.

    Here are the new ones:

Here are the ones that were the proper design (but made in the wrong size):

    Wow, Mike.
Sorry you have had so much trouble.
At least you don't have to eat this pair.

That pinking fail is bizarre. How could QC not have noticed that?

I don't think QC thinks that is a problem. I see a ton of shoes shipped like that on here.

I remember someone getting a pair of seconds that had the pinking just like Mikes as the only issue, it would depend on the person inspecting I suppose.

Sorry to hear they will have to be redone again Mike.

That may have not been the only issue. A myriad of people here have gotten seconds and couldn't find any flaws. AE knows something we don't....

I am with you 1/8th. As I learn more about shoes, I now know what to look for in terms of quality points. Although the overall construction on these is beautiful, the attention to detail is lacking. I now have a pair of EG's and the attention to detail between the two brands is night in day. It seems like AE's are rushed to be produced, whereas EG's are patiently made. I realize that it is slightly unfair to compare AE against EG, but my EG's cost me around $850 (for calfskin) and these AEs (shell) cost me $700. That is not that big of a price differential. The fudging (wheeled edges) is another place where the "rushed" feel is clearly observable. I think the thing that bothers me the most is that the pinking is flaring all over the shoe, see below pictures.

That is how some of the pinking looks on my Cambridge as well. Although it did get worse the more I brushed and buffed them. No excuse on yours. I agree, Mike; my AE and Alden don't compare to my EG. But then again i don't expect them to. The EG cost almost double for a reason. :D

That pinking is just sloppy, $300 is still a premium shoe, as such even calf skin versions should not have such issues. I remember having to pull bits of leather out of the broguing on my strands. I still think AE can represent great value . I was severely disappointed when this happened to my daltons.

MTO walnut cordovan daltons with the blucher portions woefully misaligned.

I will say with skoak prices being what they are the difference in cost is negligible considering the increase in quality.

without a doubt. I get worried that Skoat is going to get banned from shipping to the US or something and that I need to stock up while I can

If only they sold odd widths.

Sigh. The curse of a man with wide feet...
