Can anyone share their experience with the Alden restoration program and do they do a complete overhaul? Do they fix the inner heel leather interlining area if it’s wearing down or torn up? Photo for example. Thanks

Hi I’ve had three pairs of Aldens restored, and one pair returned as “beyond help.” In my experience (albeit ten years ago now), they inspect the shoes carefully and restore or replace as needed. You can of course make special requests, such as conversion to commando sole, adding metal exposed eyelets, etc. The shoes arrive with new sock liners so they definitely will be looking at the interlining. If you are really worried you can contact them. I found them to be very responsive. Good luck.

They don’t offer any changes anymore, they will refurbish exactly as it was before according to the model #. This is a fairly recent thing I think. You used to be able to change certain stuff but no longer I believe.

As far as the workmanship, I’ve found it to be very good. They will replace the sole entirely, and the insole as well. If you ask them to leave the uppers alone, they will, but otherwise I think they will refinish them also.

I don’t think they do this anymore. You get what originally comes with the shoe if they are able to restore it. As far as lining, a lot of guys go to Aram the Cobbler for more extensive work. The heel pad is replaced marked with a “restoration” gold foil. But if you want commando and it originally came with single leather, you’re getting single leather.
