Size 9 - 9.5 seems to be the sweet spot for getting ALL the best Alden deals.

No love for us bigfoots in the 11.5 - 12 range 😉
There’s a TON of Aldens in this range on eBay for cheap. I can’t find any deals for a 9D foot there (people are asking $900 for used 986s??), thank god for StyleForum lol

Yeah, what's up with the crazy prices? I understand many sellers are from Japan and leather shoes are hit with high import duties, so their prices reflect retail prices. But otherwise...

I'm between 8 and 9 depending on the last and was able to find some good deals online. It requires pacience though lol.

Nah. I have eBay alerts setup for my sizes and review the results almost daily. I’ve even scored one deal on a Suede Indy, but I wouldn’t call them cheap.

People want way too much for their used **** on eBay. The prices in this thread are way more reasonable.

As an example, the lowest priced Dover available in my size is $300, even though it doesn’t look to be in as good condition as the one post above

Yeah I have no idea but $1230 for your used 986s makes no sense at all as a buyer even if they’re coming from Japan

Honestly that seems like a perfectly reasonable price. It’s more than 50% off the retail price. The seller also has free shipping, has to pay the 15% eBay fee and probably reports the sale as taxable income.

At the end of the day, that price seems fine if one was in the market for that shoe 🤷‍♂️

I agree. 50% off retail price makes sense to me for used shoes in good condition (no damage, no serious wear on outsoles, no unsightly defects like stains, etc). That's more or less how retailers like Leffot and Abbot price pre-owned shoes.

I'd expect 70-75% off for shoes with more wear, some damage, in need of a resole / repair, etc. And maybe only 20-25% off for barely worn shoes - worn outside only a couple of times and showing light wear on soles and some creasing.

I appreciate the analyses, though I respectfully disagree on the price for its condition. That said, I will admit to being extremely picky about used products in general.

In my mind, your stuff is either near new condition - in which case it commands a premium. Or it’s well used and it’s hit the ground on pricing.

Keep in mind, I sell my used stuff as well, so I know how much it stings
