i like whatever123's list. i think it's always helpful to see what a long-time poster has in his list of ideal $5000 wardrobe items. Those items survive years of being on SF for a reason. And this is true regardless of whether or not you share the poster's lifestyle/aesthetics.

my $5000 wardrobe (works for my current lifestyle but probably few others and definitely not me in 5 years) consists of:

one nice trench coat on sale (mine from VB) $200
two knits (on sale from raf or mmm or jil) $300
5 pairs of grey jeans (ndg/spurr/apc/levi) + white tees on sale $350
two nice white shirts (raf/mmm/jil/spurr/boo $150)
Spend the remaining $4000 on $20+ nice shoes of various kinds (on sale of course) and rely solely on shoes to elevate an outfit [IMG]

    it won't fit many people's lifestyle/aesthetics, as i admitted
by design a $5000 wardrobe is going to be limited in choices, the goal is not to design the most 'baller' or comprehensive wardrobe. grey jeans were chosen because they go great with a variety of colors even more so than indigo (ime) and are pretty much all-weather (in particular, very summer appropriate). and there's something to be said for having a distinctive, signature 'look' others can use to identify you (especially if, for whatever reason, you want to avoid being perceived as that guy who 'dresses fashionably'). of course this can get boring fast hence the use of nice shoes to make things a bit more interesting

i'd think you'd have a better way of building a $5000 wardrobe so why not share it with the rest of us?

with denim yes ... with formal pants no. imo, formal clothing needs to fit perfectly and most belts fuck up that look. plus, most people buy cheap ass made in china belts anyway and it makes them look stupid. yes, people can tell you are wearing a cheap belt simply by how the leather looks. i cant spot you douche bags 20 feet away. stop doing it!

in reality, this needs be a 10k thread. you can build a complete very nice wardrobe for 10k.

i would like to spend another 10k on mine but i am buying a pair of wilson audio duette loadspeakers.
