That article is bullshit. There are lots of differences between different brands of mattress makers. The support for the mattress is also important, but like with every other product it's important to realize what you want and how much you want to pay for it. But the Palais Royale mattress seems like an incredible waste of money to me and I've sold beds twice as expensive.

And yes, like any other product several stores have their private label made by some manufacturer. If you go into a supermarket you can buy Heinz ketchup or the supermarkets private label. For any sensible person

BTW, if you click the following link you'll see how quality mattresses are made. Vi-Spring makes their own springs and cores. No Legget & Platt crap.

I wouldn't trust a cashmere condom when I see how fast my cashmere socks wear out though.

I'm not very fond of memory foam, but there are lots of people that do like the feel of it. Qualitywise... A good memory foam mattress lasts about 10-15 years, but it ventilates very poorly and feels very warm.

A good pocketsprung mattress on a boxspring is imho pretty much the most comfortable sleeping system. But more expensive is not always better... I've shown the Kluft Palais Royale mattress to several of my sales people and most of them couldn't believe it. It really makes no sense at all.

Not really since brands like sealy stern & foster, simmons etc etc are not available here. Just like most European brands arent available in the US.

Out of curiousity -

1. do mattresses need to be 'broken in'?
2. it is true that substituting a boxspring for a slat base = firmer feel?\\

thanks.

Yes, either with your wife, mistress or both at the same time. Repeat often.
