If memory serves correctly it's what the Independence line should've been. Higher grade materials (including that lining), better craftsmanship, and a higher price point. I want to say someone said something about it being on more familiar lasts this time but don't quote me on that.
That’s what the Indy collection was, not should have been. Better materials (maybe not a change to uppers, but certainly liner and soles), more attention to detail, and a cost bump.
The Indy lining changes things…I even put it in one of my HMs.

I'm not certain I'd call the Indy uppers "better materials." The liner and soles certainly were better.

Realistically, I think that the last (which I like the fit of, but not how it was executed) and the issues with a hard shine are what ultimately made the line not successful. I liked the 201 but the way they did the toe caps was crap.

The uppers were different leathers too. For the 2nd gen versions like the Hopkinson, some of the leather came from French tanneries that John Lobb buys leather from. For the original Indy line, I'm not sure because AE said "70% of the skins are rejected" when they chose the skins. The leathers do feel more like glove leathers than what you usually get with AE.

I had a chance to see a few minutes of the new models. Kind of a mixed bag. I do like the walnut Murray shoe -- it reminds me of the Rutledge. They also have a pretty nice chili plain toe derby, but it's not a blucher. Some boots too. They also have something very similar to the MacNeil. The linings are not lambskin, but they do look nice. But I guess the big question is, will people pay $700 for these? I'm not sure this is great timing for a lot of people.

You know, as I'm getting older, I find that I really like wearing dark chili more and more. It just goes with everything. I might add a chili Strand or similar one of these days. I find it's just much more pleasing to my eyes than merlot.

Also, I noticed they have powder blue for custom shop choices. Pretty cool.

In case anyone didn't watch or is watching the live stream if I heard correctly the reserve line starts at $800 for calf, boot is $975. Didn't hear if the Croc was priced. I'll look forward to hearing some reviews but well beyond my wallet.
Did anyone rip the video?

I heard the Croc is $2995 and is only special order.

Just saw the video. Nothing super exciting. They are on a new last that "mirrors" the 65 last. I need to try that new last out.

The Independence collection was pretty good. Of those shoes, the only one I kept was the Rutledge. It was on my favorite AE last the 333. If there was a gripe with the Independence line, it was that the premium lining really made my feet feel hot. Consequently, I only wear these Rutledges when it is cold(er). However, that premium lining makes your feet feel plush. Old pix:

I’m wearing shorts today, so I went with my AE Canal Court sneakers.

Any idea on how the newer Courtside sneakers fit compared to the Canal Court? I’m tempted to pick up a pair.

Oh yeah, they say you should match your watch strap with your shoes. But you’re also not supposed to mix camo patterns, so maybe this is a fail.
