All the best to your healt!

I hope in the USA it dit not cost to much privately.

Best regards

Pascal

I'm still in the military (retiring end of september finally) so it didn't cost anything, but it did take 3 months for imaging and 5 months to get fixed whereas on the outside you usually get the mri same or next day (or a week at worst) and surgery within a month or two.

All good though, thanks everyone for the well wishes and hoping to be in shell strands in FTL next weekend....

I’ll say from the beginning, I’m saying this matter of fact and not offended. I'm saying this as it appears you may have misconceptions or trolling, which either way I'm happy to spread the gospel. Also, I hate how this site screws up on chrome on my iphone and reloads randomly and excessively, losing my place and text.

It's a 7000lb 800+hp quad motor truck that is competition for an F150 size truck. I challenge you to find a factory vehicle that can wade through 39 inches of water (Cybertruck, Jeep, Bronco, and Range Rover all are less than 36 inches btw). Or that can tow a 6000lb trailer through the quarter mile faster than a Raptor can run it by itself.
320+ miles (74-78mpge is my average) range is plenty to get to the mountains and back with range left. In fact I can tow my Rx7 there and back on one charge.
I’m from the Texas panhandle (no, I didn’t ride a horse to school). I would never buy a gas or diesel truck, nor any of the electric competitors; never would I buy a Ford, Chevy, or Ram at all. I’m a car guy, but my wife said suv or truck. I did look at the Bronco because they look neat and can be had with a manual (but I hate Ford blinkers and Ferragamo the ecoboost. I HATE the 2.3L especially), a Taycan (😞 wife said no cars), and some other electric competitors. The only ones I looked at that I would consider were the Macan or a Cx5/Cx50. I’m a Mazda guy through and through (Miata, Rx7s, Mazda3), and I felt a bit bad not supporting Mazda again (we’ve bought my wife two Cx5s). The Cx50 would have been the more fiscally responsible choice too. But, we drove the R1T last year and fell in love with how stupidly hilarious and comfortable it was.

I have a level 2 charger that can supply 48A of 230/1/60 at our house. It's plenty, and with 300+ miles if I charge it up all the way (70% is my typical - 231 miles) I have yet to need to charge out and about. Yes, if we were traveling cross country we would probably take the Mazda or fly. But, we COULD get cross country in the Rivian. I'm in the Phoenix area, with close to 100k electric vehicles registered, so I've got plenty of charge locations (especially now that I have access to Tesla chargers).

Think Lancia rally wheels (or any of the turbine wheels) as my inspiration. Definitely a different look, but they’re literally one of a kind and if I say myself quite nice at that!
Hello madhat,

I was making a joke!! Not trollying ot anything. As a German who lived as high-school student 1996 in Basile, Lousiana, and Albertville, Alabama, and as graduate student in 2004/2005 in Philadelphia, Pennsyvlania, I am familiar with the Americans love for their pick-up trucks and SUVs.

Here in Germany pick-up trucks are an absolute rarity due to their size, as they are to big for most parking lots and garrages, and consume to much fuel given the high fuel prizes in Germany (almost 70% are taxes on the liter or fuel of around 2$, or around 7-8$ per gallon). Also with a weight over 2.8 tons they qualify as light trucks, for which one needs a special drivers licence nowadays. I still got my driver's licence class 3, "the pink slip" ("Rosa Lappen" as it was made of pink cardboard paper), in 1998 and thus I am allowed to drive casrs and light trucks up to 3.5 tons. SUVs are the maximum size allowed for cars on streets in Germany, and they are exspecially preferred by elderly people that enjoy the high instep and high viewpoint over traffic. Families prefer the lower station waggons and smaller SUVs, because their large size makes them usually also relativly less fuel efficient than regular station waggons or limousines. In the crowded and narrow streets of German cities the SUVs are a burden on the space at commute times in and out of the city, and on parking spaces.

The "range fear" or "Reichweitenangst", together with the on average 30% higher price tag of electric vehicles over their diesel or gasoline burning cousins is the reasons why they stopped selling in Germany. Also teh subszidide of up to 8000€, or around 9000-10000$, for a new electric vehicle were stopped at the beginning of the year. Then in the city the charging stations are always occupied. Thus if one does not owen his own house with a wallbox or charging station, or has a "job parking slot" (big thing together with a corporate car in Germany!!) that has a wallbox nowbodys buys a new electric car.

Germans want cars with at least 500km+, or >350m, range on one tank of fuel when driving to the South across the alps or north to the east and west sea coast for vacation. That does not make sense as one shall make regular pauses after driving 2-3hours, which would be ideal to recharge the battery, but it is not part of our "driving culture".

I personally safe for my first own apartment, which requires at least 700.000€, or ~850.000$, here in Frankfurt, plus 12-15% sales surchage and taxes on top. A house costs 1 mil. € upwards in and around Frankfurt. Hence I cylce my "job bicyle" and use public transportation to save the costs of a car. Otherwise I would immediately invest into a wallbox/charging station at the garage to get a modern electric vehicle like you, ideally a Prosche Taycan, which is great as I see it here at the Frankfurt Porsche dealership.

I am suprised that in Phoenix, Texas, eletric cars are a big thing. I would have expected gasoline and diesel to be cheap as Texas is a major oil-producing state among the USA's 52 states. Also most Republicans, which probably the majority of Texans are, are not so fond of environmental conscienceseness, as written in the media about the current presidental election.

Best regards

Pascal

All the best to year health. Great that you serve your country. I also spend 15 months in the German Navy as voluntary paramedic, in the "Standing Naval Forces Mediteranian" (StaNavMed), in 2000 to 2001. The mdeical bay on the USS George Washington aricraft carrier was huge, four times as large as on our Bavarian class frigate. I helped out there with the dentist.

My chest surgery last Friday costs my public health insurance around 1000€ / 1150$. It is fairly cheap compared to the USA, Switzerland and some other countries. I had to wait 4 weeks for the small surgery. However, the surgery was boring, as I did not recognize anything, because they put me to sleep with some really good stuff ;-).

It was the same stuff that Michael Jackson got from his doctor to sleep well, until he himself overdozed it. The Anaesthetist explained that to me what he actually gave me.

Offtopic: Do you have sufficient charging stations in the USA? I guess you picture of the electric pick-up truck was taken in the USA. Here in Germany the charging stations infrastructure is insufficient if one does not own a free standing house with a private wallbox/charging station to charge the car over night.

Best regards

Pascal

I can only say that out here in California, we don't have sufficient amounts either. We're doing better than a lot of other states, but it's nowhere near where it would need to be if the WEF wants to ban gas cars.

Any suggestions on AEs that pair well with this special sock?

View attachment 2226127
Ouch. Hope you have a quick recovery from that.

But if you were serious about recommendations- shoes with very good traction and arch support. I had a cast on one foot for a good while and quickly learned those the hard way. Leather soles might not be your friend here (and dainite is certainly not). I collapsed an arch because I kept putting too much weight on one foot without proper support.

Phoenix is in Arizona, but there’s a lot of republicans here too. Yeah, there’s definitely pockets that are anti electric…
If I regularly drove extremely far, then electric probably wouldn’t be great for me, but I don’t really have range anxiety as it is.
I would be just fine we weren’t so obsessed with trucks and suvs…sedans and estates/wagons serve me just fine.

Thanks Obam…err…PG&E…

And now back to everyone’s regularly scheduled program.
Shouldn’t be called a Randolph, but that’s cool there’sa new Venetian!

I don’t get the Venetian and I feel like no one else does either. They keep coming out and don’t sell.

Does the ShoeBank typically run a Labor Day sale? I know the extra 20% off promotions are fairly common. I have a trip to Wisconsin coming up the last week of August and I'm hoping to drop by the Shoe Bank while I'm there. Sad it's probably too soon for them to have 2024 trunk show seconds in stock but you never know.
Someone needs to sticky when the sales happen now. They used to have the Tent Sale in June, but I they didn't do it this year. They had 30% 2nds off at the end of the Anniversary sale. Anniversary sale ends in April. Also, 30% off 2nds at the end of the RDA sale. RDA sale is at the end of fall. Just keep looking at the shoebank site at the tail end of these sales. They will have a banner at the top.

No Labor day sale that I can recall.

I want to say there’s a 30% off seconds and clearance sale going on right this minute. There is a pair of F1 chili shell Landon boots for about $400 I’ll in my size that I am trying my hardest to not buy.

Obliged on both counts!

I'm fairly certain I'll actually be able to wear whatever I want in the near-term, as they had to do some meniscus repair so I'll be "tiptoes only" for weight support for at least 4 weeks, probably closer to 6.

After that, I have fresh running shoes headed my way (it was near time to replenish anyway, old pair is squeaky as all get out now so they're done) and my Indys and Natty Higgins (while dainite, I don't anticipate going anywhere in them if it's rainy) are really well-formed for me. Maybe a nice thin gel insole would be all those would need.
