The ideas above are good, however, I think many ideas with the stripes would make better socks than ties... I think one needs to consider the knit aspect of the tie when considering patterns.

How about using two different color silk threads "interweaving" them to create a blended look. Examples could be:

Gray blue - Sky blue
Orange - Pink
Peacock green - Light Blue/Green
Pomegranate -Bright Pink
Taupe - Ivory

The two threads woven through the tie would create a depth of color that would be unique to the knit tie, as opposed to the knit tie trying to be a regular tie.
