Definitely cook. That's where the fun is. You don't need to get fancy and have everything just like a perfect Thanksgiving. Get a turkey, get some yams/potatoes and fall vegetables you like (brussel sprouts roasted in the oven with lardons
), make a light gravy from the bird's juices and this will be far less painful than you think. The only thing that's a bit of a PITA is the whole turning of the bird (if it's a big bird).

IMO, it's always worth cooking. Get a smaller bird, make less stuffing, etc. but even with 3 people it still can be a great dinner.

But that's just me.

Thanks guys. I'm sold. I've done the three person Thanksgiving in the past, and my wife always complains about the obscene amount of leftovers (I will only eat them for 2-3 days).

Well - there are football games, but I encourage cooking. I still enjoy thanksgiving with my parents and sister- 4 people and never a waste.

+1. Poussin, poularde, guinea hen, pheasant, quail, duck, squab, etc, all make more sense to me for only three people.

A poussin for three? Better have a lot of stuffing and yams with that...

I eat roast turkey exactly once a year. I'm happy doing turkey on Thxgiving and eating all sorts of birds any time through the year.

Cook. Booze. When finished, know that all you have to do is walk to your bedroom!

We took a flyer and ordered some of the fresh wild game d'Artagnan has been bringing in from Scotland. I was shocked at how good it was. I don't know if you like that stuff, or like cooking it at home, but if you do, I highly recommend it. Just tastes right this time of year. Not that it is a substitute for turkey, but so good on a Sunday in fall.

When I read stuff like this I want to kick you in your ball. You say this nonchalantly, as if everyone has easy access to this stuff.

Give me a fucking break, Ed. You live in NYC. I'm sure you could find any of those within a mile of your residence. I guarantee you have easier access to all of those products than I do. Not only that, but one could easily order it through the internet.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
