So I figured this would be the best place for the non-DT version of this.

Anyone have a good recipe for a whole turkey that does not involve brining or a lot of extra lifting? 12-14lbs probably. Its for an older person so it can't be too labor intensive, nor too cook-nerd because they're terrible at cooking.

thanks Shibbs, but the cost of having to buy the jumbo stock pot, plus having to lift that with the turkey in it, makes this a no go.

find foodguy's thing on the dry brine turkey.

Don't need something large enough to wet-brine it, and works fine.

I think I am doing that this year.

last year, Manton did a poach and then finished off the turkey in the oven. It was really excellent. Looking forwards to more of it this year.

My future mother in law used to make an awesome deep fried turkey. Then she started watching cooking shows and decided that was too low class. So now she tries to do some fancier turkey roast, but is too scared to follow all the instructions in the recipe and while she is panicking the turkey overcooks.

My mother used to make the worst turkey ever. I think it was in response to the worst people ever who were our regular Thanksgiving group.

Actually now that you mention it, she didn't start making horrible turkeys until she reconnected with her horrible siblings and cousins and began inviting them over.

This looks great! Thanks guys. I emailed over a copy now. I think it'll be pretty manageable if they get started asap.

Any recs on simple sides? Maybe a stuffing, sweetpotato, veggie, or other?

Going vegetarian this TG. No turkey but we have a great nut loaf recipe. Hah. Only thing is left over nut loaf isn't the same as turkey and stuffing sandwiches the day after TG.
