I believe that @sugarbutch @sugarbutch dislikes shantung, so no doubt he will thumb up the lovely herringbone above but thumb down the tie. I would happily wear that tie so you'll get two thumbs up from me.

Also, @emptym I like this slow roll out...teasers....[IMG]

I was an early poster, second or third IIRC.

Of your ties, I like the mottled dark red, the two knits, and the three blues. I'm not generally keen on true red for ties, so the neat and stripe don't tickle my fancy. As TweedyP notes, I am not a fan of the slubs, so that tie is out, and then the vintage stripe I just don't care for.

But I personally give a lot of leeway on tie selection. They are definitely the place for idiosyncrasy to be shown.

    Gents,

I might mention again that if you want to comment on how work contexts or climate affect your choices, and perhaps how a shift in context and climate (perhaps as in actual life as a result of a move), please do so. I meant to ask you to note context/climate in your posts, as much as you care to share.

I'm happy for discussion on such issues, vis-a-vis the fits you've posted.

E.g. I don't mind the slub, though I have a preference now for slightly more subtle versions as in linen or tussah rather than shantung. If I were to move to warmer climates, I would be happy for the texture and have to store my fuzzy wools (challis would still be fine, IMO).

Oops, sorry for forgetting that info, TweedyProf. I'm in the SF Bay Area, which has four seasons each day. The above are my fall/winter, i.e. afternoon, outfits. As a prof, I wear a coat and tie to teach and a sweater when not teaching.

SB, I found your jackets post. Good stuff. The SF dislike of red ties is something I understand to some degree but don't entirely share. Relatedly, I've never been into orange or rust ties as many here are. I rarely wear the large blue and brown stripe, but it goes well with the brown velvet imo. Actually quite a few of those I rarely wear. I don't have a ton of ties, but it was surprisingly difficult to go down to 10 F/W. Those ten seemed like a good, representative assortment though.

Fwiw, here's a pic of one red one in action that I posted long ago.

And here's a couple other old pics of jackets and ties I've selected for this thread:

There were some pics of the navy and brown jackets in the old Kent Wang contest threads, but it looks like imageshack deleted them.

    Thanks!

I don't mind red for other people at all. It's just not for me. I don't wear any true red anywhere to the best of my knowledge. There's a reddish undertone to my skin that doesn't work well with red IMO.

I said I was going to post this week. I wonder if everyone's ok with me posting next week instead, since I'm awaiting a new jacket that better represents what I really like than some of the other I was gonna post? Also I'm expecting some new ties by then that I may or may not include.

Take your time. Feel free to post jacket number 6 but you'll have to justify the SC switch. ;)

I like this last, unspoilered, tie in particular.

I do like this @emptym ...and agree with the view that PoW odd jackets should have a stronger pattern.

@aportnoy cheers! I like the challis 3 and 5. You, my friend, obviously don't do a lot of selfies [IMG]. Sad for us since we have only a distorted look at what I take is Chris's work (jackets/suits)? Is the last a suit as well?

Yes, I am hopeless at the selfie thing.

The last is a suit, it's the LL Agnelli tweed. As for makers, all Despos, save the navy w/grey rope stripe which Raphael made.

Honestly, refreshing...I've work too hard at it! I won't ask more of you, but if you find yourself passing a mirror in one of those and can surreptitiously take a shot (I think I've seen some of yours in the good taste thread), please do. Indeed, if those pics are of some of the suits you just posted, can I bring them over here?

    @Leaves please check your inbox.

Agreed, especially if we got to see a contribution from you.
