Tees Shrink After Wash

I have had bad experiences with shirts where they shrink after being washed. I've noticed that some brands tend to shrink much more then others. Recently, I am in need to purchase more tees as my old ones are starting to get worn. I found two nice discounted tees, one is SeanJohn and the other is Ergo. Both shirts are 100% cotton.

Is there any way to reduce the amount of shrinkage when washing your clothing? I am wondering how do you tell how much a shirt will shrink by. The lady at the store said both shirts will shrink by about 1/4 of a shirt size. Is this accurate, or is she just guessing?

Don't start a new thread for this, don't buy either of those shirts, if you don't want a shirt to shrink wash it cold on delicate cycle and hang to dry. It's that easy.
