Painful. And the people actually wore stuff like that. Thank God color photography wasn't around. That's one thing people don't often realize with menswear- bright colors show up fairly regularly in the history of menswear. The 20's were often very loud in terms of color. Not always to the extreme of the above example, but it wasn't just white shirts and conservative ties. A lot of the Jazz looks from that time would make SF weep. And of course, the 60's and 70's... It's just one of those things. Some looks popular with the younger crowd- brightly colored shirts, lots of patterns, have actually been pretty common in times past. They're not new innovations, but thanks to color photography only being more recent, we just don't think of the past in terms of color.
