Well, besides that they are tied at the hip with Gore-Tex unlike, say, Westcomb which seems to be really driving using newer technical fabrics

I am mainly comparing the arcteryx strato and the tad ranger which are basically the same in price.
IMO the design on the TAD is more thought out. E.g. pocket placement that does not get in the way of bags with waist pads/straps. Can`t go wrong with either brands really

Well, how would you compare those to the Westcomb Switch LT?

have not handled westcomb stuff but looks great from what I see. american made I think. has everything you see on other brands like arcteryx. just a matter of sizing and color and personal preferences at this point.
    taped seams [x]
    vented pits [x]
basically has the same denominators as other brands

Canadian made, apparently by ex-Arcteryx folks who wanted to go a different direction. They also introduced a new fast to market model, so they tend to have the newest fabrics on the market early.

Just hard to find somewhere to actually see them... Plus, they always have some weird detail that makes them ugly.

that's the stealth lt. I wonder if it's it's really that much better to justify the price tag over the reg stealth though (which is now off the site I see..)

I personally like the regular stealth since you can hide the hoodie. BTW go visit tad`s facebook page. they do releases every friday with new stuff at 1130-1200 CST

Weird color selection, odd combos of slightly mismatched color... Just enough to prevent them from being good looking.

Here is an example of both in action:

If they were serious about that - they would just put scotchlite on it..

yeah +1 on the scotchlite. I like TAD personally because the colors are versatile.

I almost think that some of these jackets are getting too breathable - I have a Rab Drillium made out of very light eVent and it is too breathable for me. You pretty much have to layer under it.

I think it is an amazing jacket, and would be perfect for climbing or cycling. But for just hanging around, it doesn't insulate well enough. Will probably end up selling it and looking for something more city-wearish, like a Veilance piece or similar.

In other news, just got my Acronym Set 1 from Bodega - ridiculously sweet piece of kit. The Gore Tex Pro isn't as lightweight as eVent which is a plus in my book.

How much did that set run you? Was there anything special about buying it? Limited?

I had sold my previous Acronym jacket which was a bit too tight in a M. Then Bodega had a 20% sale on, so went for it... Not sure about the status, but I always like stuff with a bit of quirkiness to it, so there you go.

Anyone have any experience with TAD gear in this thread? Was thinking about the Special Service Sweater and maybe a Stealth Hoodie LT (Schoeller C-change)
