• CALLING ON HOME SEWERS TO HELP HEALTHCARE WORKERS FIGHTING COVID-19

The lack of proper masks, gowns, and eyewear equipment is making it difficult for health workers to do their work fighting the novel coronavirus. In a recent New York Times article, medical workers said they were worried about how they can both fight the coronavirus without imperiling themselves, as well as their loved ones when they go back home.

If you are a home sewer, please consider helping my joining Hickey Freman Technical Vice President Jeffery Diduch in his effort to produce and deliver homemade gowns and masks to medical professionals in the greater Rochester, New York Area. Read about how you can help here

Hey guys,

I have a linen blazer and I’m considering getting another. I like the texture and the breath-ability.

Can I wear a standard twill cotton (smooth) dress shirt, no button down with linen?

If not, what is the most congruent fabric? OCBD?

How about trousers? I have been dressing it down with jeans, but could I get away with worsted wool? I don’t wear chinos.

Thanks

I would go with a open weave such as Leno or Giro Inglese or lightweight plain cloth such as batiste. Pique knitted shirts are everywhere too. No chinos? How about Bermudas?

would stay away from very 'smooth' worsted wool trousers. The difference in texture will get more apparent later in the day as the jacket wrinkles/rumples but the trousers do not.

Would have to see the shirt but again, you want some texture or color variegation. Oxford cloth, end-on-end, chambray would all be better choices than a fine twill.

Twill is a little too heavy to be paired with a linen Jacket. When wearing linen, typically worn in warmer seasons, your shirt choice should also reflect the same season.
Options like a Giro Inglese, Pin point oxford, mock leno, seersucker, zephir would sit better againt a linen jacket.
