Some people I'm sure regret it (i'd regret it if I'd gotten a lower back tattoo), and some I'm sure do it to say "look at me." But for me it's not any more "look at me" than dressing well or making sure my hair and skin look good. I just happen to like the way a tattoo looks.

But I have to be very careful about my next one (ideally on my shoulder blade). People can be very judge-y and assume that I'm a specific person just because they have an idea in their mind what kind of person has a tattoo. Of course I also have a tiny study in my left nostril, but most people don't even notice it.

As for the guys who think it's nasty or sad or screams for attention - to each his own, right? Hopefully you can find an unmarked lady and I (and other tattooed ladies) will stick with a man who doesn't find my bit of ink repulsive. Everybody wins!

I have always liked Tattoos but Certain ones. The ones I really like are ones that designed by the person getting it because you know no one out there has is but you and its what you want. Also I only really like tattoo's on the arms and backs. Any where else I dont really like it unless its done in an interesting way. I got a tattoo on my arm during spring and really enjoy it although I cant went against my rule and got a tattoo of an image I found on the web but I mainly got it as a test run to see if I could go through with it since I am kinda squimish around needles but I survived and defiently want more. The things I would do for the next one(s) is find an artist I can connect with and who shares the same taste in art style and Design my own.

Yup. There's me. Then there's this chick, who was a very successful lawyer: www.needlesandsins.com

I am kind of surprised there are this many stupid people on the board. The "drunk tattoo" myth, for example, could be discounted with a simple Google search.

You don't have to like tattoos obviously, but making generalizations about people who have them is a real dumb move in today's society

I find some tattoos intriguing and appealing. A friend has a very simple, one color line design that is like a Kandinsky drawing on his inside forearm. After 20 years it still looks good.

Last night, we were at a cooking school and the assistant had simple decorative lettering design in one color across her inside fore arm that said in French, "Kiss me here". That was pretty hot and feminine at the same time. That works for me.

IMO, bold graphics or colors never work over time. The colors get weird and the large inked areas of bold graphics look awful after a while as the skin changes and the inks get fuzzy.

What looks bad, IMO is the combination of several different styles of tats next to each other (vintage, modern, ethnic, etc.) like someone couldn't make up their mind or they went to Las Vegas too many times.

The stupid, "mistake" is when white guys from the 'burbs get asian characters, celtic bands or some other ethnic symbols.

Especially when the characters are upside down, mirror images or are just plain wrong. Check out this blog.

When it comes to the human body, there is nothing "objective." Whatever you may see as objective comes through the lens of the culture, time, and place in which you were raised and identify.

Trite as it sounds, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I find tasteful tattoos on a beautiful woman to be quite elegant.

Portraits are, in my opinion, the worst tattoos, as they very rarely look like whoever they're supposed to be.

ballerinas and princesses are objectively more elegant than pornstars and hell's angels. 2 of these groups typically have tattoos.

Having dated a dancer, should I now recount the many ballerinas I met who had tattoos?

Perhaps I'll let an article the ladies at the Fedora Lounge found speak to princesses...

pix or you're lying. i've never seen a pro ballerina with tattoos, and though one may they exist, she would be an anomaly.

I would absolutely love to track down people I barely knew as acquaintances five years ago just to take pictures for you. That's not stalkerish or creepy at all.

Well every ballerina I know, pro or not, has a tat. So my anecdote cancels out yours.

Most tatoos I see are a whim of what the subject thinks is cool at the moment and have no value or meaning and frankly look rediculous. It's like a mohawk haircut that can't be undone - ever.

A GI who has his unit number or insignia tatood on himself before (or after) going into battle, a parent with the name of a lost child, something religious or something otherwise meaningful can be excused.

Most of the rest are tasteless rubbish.

If you like it, good for you, you're probably the only one.
