Tapering suit pants?

I recently got a new suit back from havinig alterations. The tailor did a good job on the things I specified, but when I wear the pants, I have this feeling that they are too wide at the bottom openings. I've never had suit pants tapered before, but I would imagine it isn't too difficult. Anyone have experience with this, and suggestions/cautions I should hear before asking for it to be done?

I'd bring a pair of pants that fit like you want these to fit. It's a very simple operation from there. They will have to be rehemmed, and being smaller you may want them to have a different break (probably less break). So don't let your tailor do the hem without remeasuring.
