Tapering jeans from inseam or outseam?

Any issues of cutting off selvage aside, would there be a reason that you would want to cut from the inseam or the outseam on a pair of jeans that you were tapering?

you can do it, but it will twist weird. the real deal way to taper is to take in both sides of the jeans...

For most of my jeans, the inseams are felled, which make it more labor intensive to taper, so I go with outseam if its a minor adjustment.

I haven't had it done with sanforized and/or raw denim, so I wouldn't know the effect of twisting of the seam after washing.

unless your taking in a lot I dont see any issue with twisting. I tapered a pair of mine, took in a bit over half an inch and no issues with that.

I've only done it from the outseam. Typically the inseam is a more complicated seam, usually felled. There's no real need to cut off the selvage unless you are taking it in a lot, maybe over 3/4" or so. Just iron it out flat.

P.s., if there is any distressing it could look strange if you take it in, so it's better to start with a raw or barely worn pair.
