Thought for the day: “Far more money has been lost by investors trying to anticipate corrections, than was lost in the corrections themselves” -- Peter Lynch.

Got word back from the accountant today. 2019 will be the last year of our Roth IRA contributions unless somehow we lower our AGI enough to contribute a small amount around tax time for 2020. After 2020, I doubt there will be anything. Time to set the taxable account up.

Are you maxing your 401(k)s?

I started max contributing to my 401k and HSA so I can continue maxing out my Roth. I’m starting to get close the phaseout.

It's been a crazy year but is anyone not up double digits YTD?

Yes. ? See my complaints from previous posts. July 1 starts a new chapter.

I really hope that works well for you. With the S&P up nearly 18% YTD, and not being up double digits in my overall portfolio, I'd be livid too.

There is a growing number of folks, some more expert than others, predicting that the historic rate of return on the S&P (and other indexes of course) is a thing of the past and folks should be thinking of modeling with 2-3% spend rates. It's certainly something to think about.

Well let's make hay while the sun shines. Checked my old 401(k) -- which is all in large cap and index funds and has been for at least a decade -- and it's up 20.58% year to date.
