Isn't the goal to have the market depressed during one's accumulation phase?

I'm telling myself the economic cycle will launch us into retirement with the opposite of SORR.
I hope so because that is the only silver lining I see here

Is that I-bond for 30k a person or per couple? 60k per year for the next few years don't sound like a bad plan for someone in my stage of life given the markets.

Edit: per person but only when the CPI is over 3.5%.

From 2008-2010, I put almost every $ I could into the stock market. Like I drove a beat up car, never traveled anywhere for vacations, never bought anything other than some shoes.

Turned out to be a good LT decision because by 2013 when I needed a down payment for my house I had more than enough to cover it.

That post made me throw some money into the market.

I have been with family this week and the topics of money have come up. I don't share anything too personal but some are in debt up to their eyeballs. One guy sold cars at GM, bought a 3yr old Escalade, then was laid off. Another had to cash out "a big portion" of retirement savings to fund a $6K medical bill. It's wild what some people do or the burn rates they have to clearly keep up with the flyover country Joneses.

I doubled down on large caps this year, but mistimed it. Should have done it today, not in Q2. Oh wells.

Put a bunch of money into short duration bonds last year because we were tired of getting no yield on our cash. Charitably, that was not a great decision.

Will be eligible for the 401(k) at the new gig in late October. Guess who's contributing 100% of his pay. It's only 26k but every bit helps under Bidenflation.

Employment remains stubbornly high. Fed smash.
