I gave my cash to the IRS as a hedge against inflation

I actually filed early this year. I knew I would be cutting a 5 figure check because of some one time items in 2020, and wanted the angst over with. Felt good being in the clear from the man well ahead of schedule.

Glad I took my ABNB lumps last Friday as it's down nearly $9 today.

Did not close my EBAY position.

I see DIS is getting nailed again today. Thinking of a Jan 22 call to do some PMCCs with.

Thinking of going back into ABNB with an iron condor for Friday. 125/130 put spread and 135/140 call. 130-135 = max profit and BEs at 138 and 127.

So, apparently I'm a ******* idiot for not having front loaded 529 plans for my kids years ago. Had no idea you could bung $150K in there all at once.

I’m looking at Disney and Airbnb too. Buying and holding.

I'm a small-timer idiot for not maximizing the short-term 529 benefits for my wife and I until we were almost done paying for qualified expenses.

My state lets you deduct the first 10k a person you contribute each year, which turns into $495 tax savings each. If you have eligible expenses, you can literally contribute to the 529 and then use it to pay the expenses the day that it clears....

I only found out in time to do this twice and my wife didn't do it at all...I could have done it 2 more times and my wife could have done it 3 times if we had just thought it through...that's about $2500 we left on the table that would have taken maybe 15 minutes of paperwork/transfers total.

I keep hoping that at some point California will provide the 529 tax breaks other states (like *ahem* Georgia) do but that doesn't appear to be in the cards. Also we can't use it for pre-college tuition the way most (all?) other states can.

Just another paradise tax we put up with. Still, I suppose, if the market tanks maybe I should do the 5-year catch up since I still have 10+ years before my kids hit college. Do any 529s let you buy ARKK? Or crypto?

Our advisor routinely puts CA-based clients into the Utah 529. I'll send you the rationale memo.
