Paid a whacking great capital gains tax bill. Even with the volatility, we had a couple of big liquidity events in the first half. With another 13.3% going to CA (including 1% Mental Health Surcharge) the effective rate was close to 40%. At least I can console myself with the thought that Steve Mnuchin will make sure it goes to the most needy Trump donor.
Your marginal rate on "earned income" can't be much higher can it?

Meanwhile ...

https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2020-07-13/covid-fear-will-keep-the-world-in-a-slump?

This is about London but will hold I think for many of the mega-cities. See also the WSJ piece today about New Yorkers fleeing to Connecticut.

The market is cuckoo bananas ...

Could be, but assuming they make $10k profit per vehicle they sell, if they can reach production of 1M that’s a nice $10bn revenue. It depends on the China deal and the new batteries as well.
But most likely a bubble indeed!

“COVID-19 is now inversely related to the markets. The worse that COVID-19 gets, the better the markets do because the Fed will bring in more stimulus. That is what has been driving markets,” said Andrew Brenner, head of international fixed income at NatAlliance.

So the US government's bailout priority seems to be:

1. Companies
2. Employees
3. Americans

I forgot about a Roth account I have, and that account is up 180% since I bought in 2013. Am I investing right?

Only if you're triple leveraged.

If I was triple leveraged and only getting 9% annualized return, I suck. No, this was before I learned of the glory that is triple leverage (I hate to admit that there was such a time). Soon I plan to transition to spending all my time day trading triple leveraged options of VIX which means I should be getting about 180% return a day.

Fairly plausible argument.
