What do you call a stock that dropped 90%? One that fell 80% then fell another 50%.

People love their losers. They also like to catch falling knives. Did your coworker buy in on the dip or just held individual stocks for some reason?

He bought the dip, but then it dipped further. He was just of the mind that utilities can't go bankrupt.

Does anyone find the IRS Withholding Calculator helpful or there is something else you guys use? Payday is tomorrow and have to submit new W-4 and 401(k) salary deferral form!

My first instinct would be to call your accountant. The reason I say this is my wife and I got an unexpected tax bill the year after we married. We both claimed 0 but due to income we owed like $5-$6K if I remember correctly. We then started paying an extra $400 per month to catch up throughout the year. This additional amount then varied based on kids, 401k contributions, and the new tax bill introduced last year.

Yeah, I am kind of nervous this year with the tax changes. I have used the IRS calculator and it seems that I will get back about the same amount as I normally do, which makes me a bit nervous.

A lot of coworkers in the past have gotten whacked when they changed their filing status as married. I think it depends on whether you will file jointly and all of that jazz. Also if one person makes significantly more than the other there's weird stuff that can happen.

I just claim 0 as a way to help me save. I know it's dumb and not efficient, but it works for me.

I do that and then have an extra $300 a cheque taken off too.

I think we're going to end up paying more due to the damn SALT limitations. Just our property tax more than eats up our SALT.

Was reading fund prospectus for available ones in Mrs. Piob's 457. One fund is a "guaranteed income" fund that does not guarantee the investors any income! It does however guarantee the fund managers 1.5% in fees.

The guaranteed income funds I have seen pay out principle if the income does not meet the stated threshold.
