Speaking of FIRE, the last person receiving a US Civil War pension passed away. With all these pension funds needing a 10% return to stay solvent, do you think they are modeling paying out for 155 years?

I heard about this woman on a podcast a year or two ago and it has been a fun fact no one could believe.

I read about that. She was getting a really small amount every month. Her dad was like 85 when she was born and her mom was like 35.

No joke - i thought that if all went well, I’d be financially independent at retirement and go to work as a lot porter at a Porsche dealership. Just drive cars around all day (although the washing would be irritating)

When I was a car runner at a VW dealership, they had separate guys for the washing. I just parked things.

I love how page one search results label in a pyramid scheme while we are all getting rich off it.
Being an early investor in a pyramid scheme can work out well.

I seriously consider opening a coffee shop for retirement, I think that may drain my retirement faster however. Maybe I should just sit at one and read...
Met a guy once who retired and opened up a second hand bookstore. His collection was killer, as it should be as it was his library. His idea was that this way his wife wouldn’t object to him buying so many books and he had a place to store them to boot. The guy always just sat in the corner of his store in a really quiet town, reading and drinking tea.

he had it figured out.

I’ve done this job at a Toyota dealership Before graduating to salesman. It sucks. I can’t imagine it’d be any better with Porsche. You don’t get to do any type of fun driving. Just lots of nerve-wracking weird parking jobs.

Being a salesman would be better. You can take fun test drives.

Good feedback. So you’re saying I need a plan B. If I were a better track driver I’d try to instruct for PCA or something...

salesman wouldn’t work, thatjob has actual responsibility and quotas and shit

Not going to lie...I'm now in the black for the year.

My most likely retirement gig is playing pipes at weddings and funerals. I know a guy that gets 1k for about a 90 minute commitment at weddings and he says you're almost always asked to stay for dinner...and the open bar.

Really? I’d love to know why. I’m a capitalist, a stoner, and a chocoholic. It’s perfect for me. Sort of.

When my Dad was a resident in the late ‘60s he had a patient who was a veteran of the Spanish American War.

True story: I’ve been working on my semi-retirement plan for several years.

Assuming that snow is still a thing I plan to teach adaptive skiing full time (seasonally duh)
