I have a suit that I got really cheap (I got lucky) and it fits really well but could fit better. Unlike my best fitting suits, it doesn't really hug the small of the back perfectly. This is probably the result of it being a little big in the waist (not enough taper for my body). If a good tailor nips a jacket in at the waist (I'm guessing at the sideseams), will this help the fit of the jacket in the lower back area, or is this something that depends on the originally shaping in the factory?

One of my jackets had the same problem (back appeared flat, result of too much fabric around the waist), and I had it altered by a tailor, and now there is a more pronounced curve down my back at a profile perspective. Hope that helps.
