I've lived in both Houston and Atlanta, so my response may be biased, but I'd visit Miami if I were you. Both Houston and Atlanta are inland cities with fairly unremarkable architecture and bad traffic. Sure, there are some great shopping, restaurant, cultural opportunities in both, but if it were me, I'd spend the days in Miami Beach with trips in to Miami proper as needed.

Maybe if you give some more ideas of what you'd like to achieve on your trip, I might be a bit more help. Is it sightseeing? Nightlife? Food? Art?

From what I understand, Houston and Atlanta are both Sprawl City. Miami is the clear choice. What most people think of as "Miami" is actually "Miami/South Beach," which is a peninsula across the bridge from Miami proper. I second the recommendation to stay in Miami (preferably South) Beach. I'm old, so I can give you art recommendations, but not nightlife recommendations.

The one time I went to Atlanta, I was at Decatur. Very cool charming part of Atlanta that's also right off of one of the MARTA train stops.

Miami is Miami.

Can't speak for Houston though the Wall Street Journal had an interesting guide on what to check out there.

This is exactly where we are going!

It's awesome that I have 6-7 friends now flying from around meeting me there.

Any recommendations on lounges, bars, clubs, etc? Only thing I know is Liv and KOD. Lol.

Will be going from Nov 5-9. It's for my bday. I will be turning 30. At first I wanted to do something low key but word got out so my friends, most I met online, are flying from all over to join.

Looking to party and eat and all that stuff. We are only staying several days so trying to make the best of it. Basically only going back to hotel to sleep and get out again. Lol.

Thanks dudes. Didn't wanna quote you all to take up space.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention if anyone can suggest more lowkey things to do: awesome night life places that aren't $ or eats or anything in general, I would appreciate it.

I don't think we will be buying up tables at high end establishments on this trip. Just want to experience the town and enjoy what it has to offer.

This is what I have so far. May end up doing airbnb if a lot of friends come through. List is still expanding. Getting a table is expensive! Story quoted me at $4k minimum, that's more than Vegas at fight night.

Club crawl: http://pubcrawl-miami.com/

Nikki Beach for Sunday: http://www.nikkibeach.com/destinations/beach-clubs/miami-beach/venue/

Club we can buy pre sale tickets. Not bad at $30 each, if someone worth seeing. http://storymiami.com/

Eats/bars:

Clevelander: http://www.clevelander.com/ check out video, club opens until 5AM

Please let me know if you fellas have any suggestions. I'm keeping a Google doc to shoot to my friends. This was straight c/p, lol.

Miami and it's not even close. It's truly as out of the country you can get without leaving the mainland. I'm not big on South Beach, but there is a great fried chicken place there (Yardbird).

Thanks, guys. Will consider all suggestions. Miami it is! First post updated with info.

How difficult is driving around South Beach? I got a rental anyway so I can at least drive from the airport to the apartment. I would surely not be driving at night when alcohol would be had.

There's traffic, but not too bad.

The primary north-south road in Miami Beach is Collins Avenue. Most of the stuff you will want to see and do is on, or a few blocks away from, Collins. Traffic gets progressively worse the further south you go, but is not terrible. Except for Friday and Saturday night, when Collins south of 17th or so becomes a parking lot.
