Hello Gentleman, This is my first topic since joining the forum, I must say I've learned an incredible amount about quality clothing construction and find the atmosphere on this board to be inviting (compared to certain other boards run by large men's fashion magazines...but I digress). I will be finishing my degree soon and will be needing a suit to wear probably once every two weeks. I am rather tall (6'2") and have broad shoulders with a smaller waist (32") and very long arms (yes I know, life is tough... Â [IMG] ) Most off the rack suits and shirts (including the one I have now from Jack Victor) are extremely blousy, so I've decided to go MTM or bespoke. I was wondering if any forum members could recommend any tailors in either Vancouver or Toronto. I'm looking to spend between $600-1200 (I don't really care about material, just the right fit) on a simple 3 button SB suit. I've heard good things about Trend Custom Tailors and Tom's in Kensington Market here in Toronto and was wondering if anyone has used either of their services. Thank you for your time. Aaron

I recently had my first MTM suit made by Seville Tailors in Burnaby, BC (suburb of Vancouver). Overall the experience was positive and the suit fits me well. I did not have the benefit of all the knowledge I've gleaned from the Style Forum and Ask Andy's so I went in totally green.

Seville is run by an Italian gentleman who said he's been making suits since he was 15 years old. He had a certificate on his wall from Italy indicating that he is a certified master tailor.

I'm also interested to find out about other tailors in the Vancouver area.

I'm shopping in Toronto for a good tailor, and so far I might have found two shops that are more convincing. I haven't ordered yet, therefore it's not fair to comment on them. As for Tom's in Kensington Market I have to go and talk to him. I went there once one Sunday, but was closed. I'll visit his store in a near future to see what he can do, and how much. For $1200 you can get a custom made from one of the shops I mentioned. The other ones are more expensive. Starting at $2200 is a bit beyond what I would spend right now. Also, Harry Rosen on Bay street is having a MTM suit promotion from J.L. Tilford. They will make the measurements at the store and you'll wait three weeks to get the suit. The price is $1100 with a decent selection of swatches for the material (mostly 100's-120's). Check them out. Are you living in Toronto or Vancouver?

I go to school in Toronto from September to April and spend the summer and Christmas in Vancouver (my hometown). For work I will most likely be travelling to both cities as well. So either city works for me.

I recently went to the Harry Rosen in Yorkdale and talked to a few salespeople there about the JP Tilford MTM. I checked out some swatches. I find the JP suits to be a bit too structured for my tastes and there are limited options in what you can do with the suit. Additionally, I never really like the attitude of the salespeople when I go into Harry Rosen, they seem condescending to younger clients (I find the same thing at Holt Renfrew, although at both stores I have met some amazing salespeople and always try to speak with them). I would like the option of working with a tailor I can develop a relationship with, so down the line I can try out some more adventurous styles.

P.S> Tom's in Kensington Market is great. They have a lot of "different" looking clothing you wouldn't normally find mixed in with a lot of samples, end of the line stock, etc. Plus you get to haggle. I just bought a pair of grey pinstripe flat front pants, altered while I waited, for $100 CAD (including tax) that were originally priced at $150.
