I happened upon a sensational deal a week ago: a NWT Samuelsohn single-breasted suit, fully canvassed, in a delicious Super 130s fabric. Only problem is that it was a 46 regular not the 46 long I generally wear.
Took the suit to my Portugal-trained tailor yesterday, tried it, and he noted immediately that it looked slightly short on me, despite the hem reaching the end of my thumb (I'm long waisted).
Trousers and sleeves were readily correctable, with adequare fabric.
I asked whether the jacket hem could be brought down another inch, and he went into a rather detailed explanation, basically saying that the curve of the jacket front on a SB suit makes it impossible to lengthen, while a square-edsged DB suit could be.
Comments from expert tailors? I hate to dump the suit, but I won't settle for less than perfect fit either.
