Tailoring, Or Grown Men Debate Like Children

Something about talking about bespoke tailors online causes our posters to argue.

Gennaro Paone

Alright. This thread functions well on two levels. First, it’s an exploration of a new/old face to the international bespoke tailoring scene, former head Rubiancci tailor Gennaro Paone. Paone is setting up his own shop, and his affordable pricing (for Italian-style bespoke, that is) and his pedigree have already attracted a number of StyleForum fans. As cool as that is, though, the second level is even more impressive: this thread features some classic StyleForum posters (Manton, Mafoofan, RJMan) freaking the hell out and arguing about… anything and everyone. Endlessly entertaining, and enlightening to boot!

French Tailoring

In contrast to our love of Italian tailoring, there are some stalwarts (even holdouts) who hold the candle for French tailoring. Unlike the Gennaro Paone, this thread lacks divisive, bitter slap-fights (and sadly, no debates over political correctness), but what it misses in drama it makes up with detailed descriptions and some posters’ encyclopedic knowledge of French tailors. This thread is StyleForum at its educational best: a journey into a specific clothing niche, chock full of fit pics and descriptions, and a welcoming, friendly atmosphere. What’s to not like?

Tailoring Advice

Alright, you can’t afford bespoke tailoring. Welcome to the 99% (or the 99.99% if you’re excluding credit card purchases). There’s hope for you yet, and that comes in the form of off-the-rack clothing you get tailored with help of our wonderful tailoring advice thread. Staffed by real tailors who are really helping you, if you post decent pictures – and I mean DECENT – then you’ll get spot-on feedback you can take to your local alterations place.
