Tailoring a jacket

Blazers/suit jackets are a challenge for me since I'm a skinny tall guy (6'2, 38.5" chest). If I can find a 40L slim fit then I'm in good shape. The only negative is a small crease in the lapel when I button the first-button on a 2-button jacket. I see it, but I dont think anyone else really notices. I could get a 42L but then I'm swimming in a huge jacket. So should I buy a 42L and tailor to a 40L? Can it be done or is that too much material to adjust? Whats a typical cost?

thx

I'm sure that my tailor can do this. But you should get professional advice
before you buy. Also, get the proper measurements that fit you. Not all
40 Ls fit the same.

if the shoulders of 42 is fine then yes you can otherwise it's not good to tailor them. this was the general idea. To me tailoring a jacket from waist or chest is not good neither, i will try to keep the original form.
