Hi all, I'm new to the site but have been enjoying reading some of the posts recently.

My question is bespoke suit shirts in central London. I recently had a suit and 2 shirts done by Chopin and Lodge in Cornhill but at £180 a shirt there shirts are a bit pricey imo.

Can anyone recommend anywhere to get good tailored shirts cheaper? Sub £100 would be ace!

You are not likely to find anything bespoke for under £100 in Europe. Best bet would be finding a good MTM option. I've been very happy with Proper Cloth and it can all be done online. Personally I find bespoke shirts to be a waste of money. They don't last long enough and the best MTM get the fit pretty damn good these days. I'd rather spend the money on bespoke suits and jackets.

Hello Sir,

I am new here too.

I know of one place. Santamaria Shirtmakers on Ossington Street, Notting Hill. I concede their website looks tacky and it is an odd place to have shirtmakers on a residential street.

Nonetheless...
They are a Spanish tailoring family who, I was informed, own several shirting mills and import other shirtings to the continent. Subsequently, they don't have to pass on expensive fabric costs to the customer. I was also told that while the abilities of their seamstresses in Madrid do not differ to those in Gloucestershire of the English makers, it is indeed much more cost effective to have the shirt cut and made there!

Shirts start at £89 and increase via your material choice. There is no minimum order commitment (just as well as I am trialling them!). The collars and cuffs on show are more of a guideline as quite literally anything you want can be made.

I brought in a MTM Budd shirt for near replication - except I wanted a deeper almost spearpoint collar design I sketched on a notepad. Along with a split yoke and some other cuff features I now cant remember exacting, this was all accommodated in the brief. I also looked into a linen shirt with a similar collar except concealed button down, cocktail cuff (not on display) with three fastening plus the idea of a tab to keep what we envisaged as a soft turn back in place.

Measurements taken superseded those of my MTM experience at Budd, including determining height of the armholes (love high armholes!)

All in all, I was in for £99 for the poplin and £130 for the linen. I have not received the shirts yet but I thought I'd put my two cents in now as from the handiwork I could see waiting to be collected in the showroom, they are worth a punt.

I sincerely hope this helps.

Prof. Ratigan

P.S Anyone had a chance to mull over my shoe query?
